Uto Karem Interview Grotto intervju 2016

“When The Sun Goes Down” od Arctic Monkeys-a je jedna od pesama koju slušam dok trčim.

07. Remiksovao si soundtrack za “The Magnificent Seven” film.

ENGLISH VERSION

01. In one of your video interviews you said that you believe there’s a song for every mood of the day. Can you name us the three soundtracks for every part of the day?

Morning – In the morning I like something relaxed to easy start the day, I would choose: Moby – Sunday
Afternoon – In am also a big fan of old school Hip Hop so of course my choice is: Notorious B.I.G – Hypnotize
Evening – In the evening I usually go running so I prefer something more energetic: Arctic Monkeys – When the Sun Goes Down

02. For you key and lock for the success in dance music industry are? (one thing you should and shouldn’t do as an artist).

As an artist you should always be consistent with your work, one thing you should do as an artist is to believe in yourself, create your own musical direction and not care to much about the trend of the moment.
In my opinion something you should not do as a new coming artist is do try be \ copy someone else, influences are good but at the end the originality is what makes you stand out.

03. As a teenager you were influenced a lot by Naples techno scene which also influenced a lot on Belgrade clubbing scene. How does something like that happened form your perspective? What does it take to create something regional and local that has World impact on music scene?

Well basically in my experience these kind of things you don’t plan, they just happen, it’s some kind of strange coincidence were different things happen at the right place in the right moment, for example in Detroit the people that gave birth to Techno, I imagine they didn’t plan things thinking we are going to change the music industry, it just happened and now we see all the great things that they made happen. Of course, together with the “alignment of the starts” there must be always a lot of talent and hard work behind. So as a teenager being part of the underground club scene in Naples was very inspirational, we had all these amazing artists flying in from all parts of Europe & US, people like Richie Hawtin, Luke Slater, Jeff Mills, Sven Vath, Robert Hood, Damon Wild, Robert Armani, Ben Sims, Paul Daley (ex Leftfield), Darren Emerson (ex Underworld). Every weekend was a packed party and by that time it was great fun believe me.

04. From what we see you are one of the hardest working DJs – how do you manage and balance DJing, production, promotion, managing the label, signing records and if we are not making a mistake working as a journalist and reviewing new technologies and music back in the day for famous Italian magazine?

Yes I used to work for a computer music magazine in Italy back in the days, unfortunately I didn’t have time to follow it, but have to say I really enjoyed that period of my life.
As a traveling artist I fly every weekend and every year I have long tours in South America that can last up to 4 weeks. The best thing in my opining and the key to manage it all in the best way is to be focused and organised, work hard, take care of yourself and to get surrounded by very professional people that can follow things relative to your work, and I am lucky to have a good team behind me that make my work routine much easier.

05. You’ve been to Serbia before. How does the scene and vibe compare here to the rest of the World?

Yes I was in Serbia a few months ago at Uranak Festival and I have to say it was a really nice experience, starting from the promoters to all the party people on the dance floor. There is a special energy that you can feel on stage and that really makes you want to stay, give the best of yourself and enjoy the party.

06. On your imprint Agile you are signing a lot of talented producers and DJs. On who should we watch out and take a listen in upcoming months and 2017?

Yes we have a roaster of very young and talented artists that started working with our label over the years and now have become well know international artists.
For example now a very talented artist to lookout is Landmark, he has already done a few releases for the label and others are in the pipeline, so watch out for this young Italian guy that has already made some great releases both on Agile as well as on other labels.

07. You remixed a soundtrack for The Magnificent Seven movie. How do you get that kind of requests and what is your approach when remixing a track that is not made for the dance floor?

Well the production partners for Spotify contacted my agency saying they were selecting 7 world famous DJs to remix a section of the Magnificent Seven soundtrack, culminating in an even night, where all of them would play their remixes and DJ. Making also a mini-documentaries about our creating process as well as of our daily life en general, so I thought it was cool thing to do and was every exited as for me it was a different challenge that could take me out of my comfort zone. My approach to the remix was to keep original elements of the soundtrack and to infuse my own twist. My state of mind in this case was like I didn’t want to make something specific for the dance floor, but something that people could listen.

08. And for the end – tell us what are you looking forward to in upcoming weeks and months and what can we expect from you @ Go2 Halloween party?

Since this is the period after the summer madness I am focusing a lot in the studio, putting in the final touches of my upcoming album which has taken me almost 2 years to develop, but now I am at the final stage on the mixing and trying the tracks on the dance floor, and of course you can expect me to play some of those at the Halloween party 🙂 Also on the touring side I am really looking forward in the next months to be on tour in Japan, South America and the US.

Grotto
